How to access strikethrough from keyboard shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts are combinations of buttons you can press on your keyboard to elicit an action or task in a program you're using. They are called shortcuts because the action of pressing certain keys is typically faster than navigating through your computer or a specific software with your mouse. Here is how to access strikethrough through keyboard shortcuts:
Strikethrough keyboard shortcut on a PC
If you're using a PC, highlight the text that needs a strikethrough and press Alt + Shift + 5 together.
Strikethrough keyboard shortcut on a Mac
If you're using a Mac computer, highlight your text and press the ⌘ + Shift + X buttons together.
How to remove strikethrough
If strikethrough was the last action you took, you can immediately hit the undo button, which is either accessed from the menu bar at the far left or from the "Edit" tab on the menu bar.
Remove strikethrough on a PC
-
Use the Ctrl + Z keyboard shortcut if you're on a PC.
-
Repeat the same actions that applied strikethrough to the text: highlight the words and either apply Alt + Shift + 5 on the keyboard or go to the menu bar and select Format/Text/Strikethrough.
Remove strikethrough on a Mac
-
Use the ⌘ + Z keyboard shortcut if you're on a Mac.
-
Repeat the same actions that applied strikethrough to the text: highlight the words and either apply ⌘ + X on the keyboard or go to the menu bar and select Format/Text/Strikethrough.
Remove strikethrough by removing all formatting
One more way to remove a strikethrough is by clearing all of your formatting. You should know that this action will clear everything you have applied to the selected text, including bolding, italics and underlining. To perform this action, highlight your text and either use Ctrl + \ for a PC or Command + \ for a Mac. You can also access your "Format" tab and select "Clear formatting" from the drop-down menu.
When to use strikethrough in Google Docs
It's common for a Google Doc to have multiple contributors so that everyone involved in a project has direct access to view and edit the document. For this reason, you may want to strike through text as you make changes, rather than deleting text, so that others can compare your edits.
A few more reasons you may want to use strikethrough include marking off items on a To-Do list and striking through passages you have already read to mark them as completed.
